Staying in Edinburgh

Can anyone recommend somewhere to stay in Edinburgh? We're planning a holiday there in the new year, somewhere nice but not expensive.

I've had a good stay at the Travelodge near Waverley Station (budget) and the Apex Hotel on Waterloo place (spendier) if you do the travelodge don't bother with the breakfast, there are loads of places close by with better options.

Travelodge often do really cheap deals for Edinburgh in Jan/Feb. You can see the rates on the pricefinder.

Some good deals right now. Rose street and Waterloo place are the most central and would be our preferred choice of location, although St Mary's street in the old town would be fine, too.
