Stock your freezers chaps- the cheap meat is back!

Got several large beef joints at approx £8 each in Sainsburys- whole salmon same price too. Pork cheap too but I'd rather have beef given the choice:T

We eat veggie a lot for cheapness but you can't beat these joints really. My parents have been staying and they are old enough to have lived through the war and real hardship. Therefore they don't feel they have been fed unless they have meat really (Yes I know, but they like to indulge and I like to "feed them up" too!). THey don't stint on meat portions if it is available either:eek: .

However one of these lovely beef joints fed 7 of us for a roast dinner, 7 of us for a sandwich dinner (well "loaded" sarnies they were too) and 6 for a cold meat "roast" dinner. 20 meat portions for £8:T :T

Must brave the crowds and get another salmon and another beef at least!

I guess the same sort of deals will be back at easter but it is while till then...

:xmassmile Just managed to get a couple of beef joints at less than £8 each and a pork joint for just under £7 so very pleased! After reading Shirley Goodes blog last year I found out that I can cook up the meat, cool and slice it and then freeze the slices of meat in portion sizes straight into zip lock baggies, did this with the ham as well and it worked a treat! Thank you again for the info! :T

  • Yes, it works well with ham - I freeze the leftovers at Christmas ready sliced for meals.

  • Pretty chuffed with myself- popped into Sainsburys and got a couple of bargains:beer:

30 portion "taste the difference" Xmas cakes for £3.99- bought 3- 2 are chopped up and bagged in the freezer to be used for pack lunches and the last is put away for DS birthday cake!

That has to be cheaper than anything I can cook as a munchy to go with lunches!

Also picked up a couple of large pork leg joints at £8 ish- finally woke up to the fact that it would be chaeper to cook these and pop them in sandwiches (after having a roast dinner first) than buy packs of sliced ham! (I freeze the sandwiches a week or so ahead of time).

I didn't (yet) buy one of the huge raw hams on the bone- reduced from £26 to £13- I wonder (given the area we are in) that this is still to expensive for them to be snapped up, and they were dates till 6/1, so they are likely to go down further...

Well done on your purchases. What sort of things are ok to freeze in sandwiches? Am planning on getting a chest freezer soon and this would really suit me.

    Hi anonymousie,

Congratulations on your bargains! As this is more of a shopping thread than Old Style, I'll move it across to the Shop but don't Drop board for you.
