Got final bills for energy/water but I'm not moving or switching???

This week, I recieved final bills from my energy and water companies but i'm not moving or changing supplier.
I contacted both and they told me that they had been informed that a new occupier had/was moving in. When I got the first one I thought that this could be an honest mistake, but when I got the second I was concerned that it's something more suspicious.
They have reinstated both accounts but how concerned should I be about this from a security perspective and what can I realistically do about it? Seems strange that someone can just say that they're moving into my house and my supplier just cancels my account without contacting me.
Any help appreciated.

99% chance is someone has just got confused over what their new address is/ is going to be, its easy enough to do.jimboselecta said:They have reinstated both accounts but how concerned should I be about this from a security perspective and what can I realistically do about it? If energy companies had to wait until both former and new occupant contacted them many accounts would never change over and then there would be a fight when 2 years later the other party does contact them but no longer can find the closing reading or the closing reads disagree etc.
We had a silly address a whole back where we were 5 Big House, The Street, City AA11 1AA and 2 doors down was 5 The Street, City, AA11 1AA . Tons of problems of people missing out the building name from addresses as call centre agents dont listen and even if the address was right the posty often mixed up the mail in both ways.0 -
Thanks - appreciate that it could be human error and can understand it with an energy switch but nobody new has moved into our street recently so it's the water bill that's confused me.0

could be that someone moved into '1 our drive' and your '1 our street'.jimboselecta said:Thanks - appreciate that it could be human error and can understand it with an energy switch but nobody new has moved into our street recently so it's the water bill that's confused me.
i can't see anyone would benifit from taking over paying your bills and youve seen they dont switch anything over without sending you a letter so id personally not worry (unless you get a letter setting up a new bank account or someone tries to deliver something expensive you havent ordered or something like that)Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you. It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.1
