Acorns?

Options
There are so many acorns around at this time of year, just lying on the ground, rotting away... Does anyone know of anything useful you can do with acorns??? Are they edible??? It seems a shame to let them all go to waste!

..............spray them gold and use them for christmas decorations.
We went beserk one year and sprayed just about every nut, acorn, beech mast, lovely twigs, pine cones etc we could find and then my mother-in-law helped the children 'tastefully' arrange everything on the sideboard, and the dining table, and the hearth, and so on and so on...........(remember not to do too many)
They used a selection of gold, copper and bronze paints and gold confetti.

ooh, that sounds like a good idea. thanks for the recipies link too - but have to say I don't much fancy cracking them all open, chopping them and then boiling them about a dozen times until they stop tasting bitter!!

    Hi Allexi

Yes, but they knew someone who grew them and who gave them a lot of advice.

We just seem to kill them off in our house unfortunately. :-[
