Good morning folks.
What a nasty day yesterday was, persistent rain and wind. I went out to visit my elderly friend in hospital, what a shock it was to see him. He's lost so much weight I hardly recognised him but his eyes still twinkle and his humour was intact. I'd only been there for 10 minutes when one of his daughters arrived so I left, she'd driven across from Edinburgh to see him. There's other family coming for the rest of the week so I'll not go again until probably Saturday.
For now I wish everyone a happy Wednesday.

Morning folks and thanks GERS. We had persistent rain yesterday too. Today is forecast fine with sun before the rain is back tomorrow. BFF and I enjoyed our meet up regardless and managed to avoid the heaviest rain on our walk to and fro the bus home.
I have decided I have been in denial of Christmas looming for long enough and plan a bus ride out to make a start on some shopping. I have never before been so slack set up about it. This year I seem lacking in any sort of enthusiasm.
I got home yesterday to a card through the door. Parcelforce had tried to deliver my dehumidifier which I had only ordered the afternoon before! I have arranged redelivery for tomorrow so as not to scupper my Christmas shopping plans for today!
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for the poorlies, fed up or MIA. Take care all and be safe xx

Good morning, thanks for starting Gers.It rained all day yesterday, what a day, terrible.I couldn't seem to get myself going, just wandered the house doing odd jobs, but today I'll have to try harder, and cheer myself up a bit, get out of this fit of the glooms. We had a lovely weekend away with my nephew and friend, the house we stayed in was really nice. We visited extended family as well, so all in all a good time was had by all.TA, we have a dehumidifier and it does help if you can put it in a room with wet washing - I also find that if I hang things from the doorframes on hangers (upstairs where it's not so inconvenient) it dries much quicker. Things like shirts, jumpers, I put jumpers on padded hangers, really anything you can hang. It does look a mess I know, but it's not happening all the time.I'm going to do some ironing today if I can stand the excitement!Sorry to hear that you couldn't visit mum on her birthday Nels.NRA, I was reading what you were saying about the EA telling you that people were put off house buying because they didn't like the decor! We couldn't afford to be that fussy, and have lived without carpet in the sitting room until we could afford it, years ago when we had a young family..Also woodchip wall paper - this house was completely decorated with painted woodchip when we moved in. Many a happy hour (not) was spent scraping it off.Snoozer, Steve is feeling better.Hope everyone has as good a day as they can today, thinking of our poorly and those who are poorly or sad.Take care folks.13

Morning all
Pouring with rain again and there are reports of more flooding locally two cars are stuck in a flood in the next village
Two clients are coming today one of them is the lad with no money I find it hard to know what to do with him, will see what they fancy doing but if its too wet we might have a day indoors crafting and baking.
Dinner tonight is hot dogs in a bun with a few chips, will get the chips cut this morning, dw has been emptied and I have put a wash on.
Southern water have been out and sorted the drain problem they had to dig in a shingle bit at the bottom of the garden, its cleared now and they removed the contaminated shingle and are going to replace it with new, its been a brilliant service !
Have good days all and take care xx11 -
Morning all and thanks for the start @Gers. I'm glad you were able to visit your friend and I'm sure he was thrilled to have visitors.
Raining hard here too - woke up at 5am as it was battering the bedroom window. It's 6 years to the day that my DNephew was found, so always a tough time for us. Have messaged DSis as she tends to go to ground this week (he died on 22nd). I too am feeling the gloom.
NRA - ridiculous isn't it that people would be put off by having to decorate. We've bought two do-er uppers in the past and we relished the challenge. I guess folks aren't as bonkers as us.
Happy shopping @TravellingAbuela - think I'm going to book a day off work to hit the shops as I'm seriously behind with my shopping too.
Welcome back @ScarletRibbons glad you had a good time away.
Hope the curtains are going okay @-taff?
Hopefully @snoozer's Steve is home from hospital and making good progress x
It's YS pan-griddled salmon for tea with veg - will have the candle ready for the stinky kitchen.
Have a good day all and hugs to the poorlies.

Morning everyone
It poured down here too from lunchtime yesterday. It was really dark too - much to the delight of the children in nursery -we have a big snowman Christmas light hanging on a lamp post opposite us and he came on about 2pm. They shout Merry Christmas Mr Snowman!
I'm not at work today - I'm going to put a big pan of soup on to cook then I'll go down to mam and dads for a cuppa. DD has a hospital appointment at Newcastle so she'll drop little one off after lunch - we have a treat this afternoon - a trip to our local theatre to see The Smartest Giant in Town. Little one is very excited! We were actually meant to see it in March but some of the cast had Covid so it had to be rescheduled. She'll stay with me tonight.
Well I'm going to get on.
Hope everyone has a good day today x11 -
Hi everyone,
Unfortunately Steve isn't home, I didn't even visit yesterday because I was waiting for a call to go and get him! I think he'd been forgotten and as he doesn't like to bother the staff he didn't query anything till mid-afternoon when he found he should have been seen by the Tissue viability nurse but she had been given wrong info and just left instructions to dress his blister but the nurses didn't know how they could. She eventually saw him and said it shouldn't be dressed and she would aspirate it this morning. The poor woman said she's the only TVN left in the hospital so I think she's run off her feet. So I'm once again waiting for news.
It never rains but it pours, Esben's temperature shot up and he said his ears hurt, Laura rang the Dr after lunch and got a return call from the doc who said she wanted to see him. She said he had a really bad infection, so much so that the drums had retracted and she could see a small bone pressing against one, so he's back on the antibiotics, poor lamb.
Laura's due date is tomorrow but Esben was 10 days late so we are not holding our breaths.
I saw on Facebook that one of our occasional poster's partner had died but I can't remember her name on here, it's the lady from Northern Ireland.
Re: washing, we are back to having it draped around, which I hate and it isn't drying fast at all because the heating isn't coming on. I looked for a heated airer but all the reasonable ones seem to be sold out. Our tumble drier broke last week and we bought another, paid more for it because it's got a heat exchanger so it is AAA rated and hopefully will pay for itself in savings on electricity. We'll need it with a new baby.
Have a good day.11 -
The sun has come out and the rain has stopped, for now. Mind you, it's much colder than earlier on in the week.Coxy - I hope that you can find some happy memories for today, it's a tough time for your family.DP1 - enjoy the show, I'm sure that the little one is beyond excited. Years and years ago I used to live really close to the theatre, it's a lovely old venue.Scarlet - great to hear that you enjoyed your break away.Ruby - well done Southern Water, at last!Snoozer - oh gosh! It's awful when a patient gets overlooked even though the hospital is so busy. Good that he's been seen at last. Maybe the odd wee call to them will prompt the staff into remembering him.Visitors in hospital are always a problem, especially for the poor ill patient. There's not much chance of a rest in there, hourly obs checks, bed making, doctors, medication, and then visitors arrive just when it's peaceful.
The worst ones are those who insist on staying for ages and ages, even though it's lovely to see them they tend to forget that the person is ill and really CBA on talking or listening for too long.
I have enough food in the fridge for today and tomorrow so won't go out shopping. As for Christmas, I don't have many people to buy for any more and I gave up sending proper cards many moons ago. I tend to give friends / family presents if and when I see something which I think they'll like. When working I hated Secret Santa, I'm really not a Grinch, honest!10 -
Morning all. About the curtains, they are fast becoming a nightmare, I have to extend them lengthways [about 2 inches] and widthways [about 20], they are also lined and are at present being a right pita. I've already told OH they'll be the ugliest curtains in the street, he doesn't care, phew. Why didn't I get slightly bigger ones and then cut down? Well, because I couldn't find any at what I would call a reasonable price...it's a weird size window, very wide but quite short. It'd be fine if I wanted to let the curtains go to the floor or past the windowsill but then that covers the radiator so the heat goes out the window. Never mind, it's not like I haven't got enough material to patchwork the hell out of them. And it keeps me busy. And sweary.Gers, glad you saw your friend and he was still the person you know. And good job cutting the grass!
Scarlet, glad you reconnected with family. Ruby, good to hear there's been movement...[sorry! couldn't resist!] Coxy, hope everyone gets through the day OK. Izzy, i think it's a mindset isn't it? And a form of being a tightfist. I was brought up watching my father and mother do everything themselves, they would only pay for something neither of them knew how to do, like the roof for example..It rubbed off on me. I've said before, I'm a jack, I can do most things, they won't look pretty but they'll be OK...But conversly, I do yearn for the day when I can extravagantly pay for someone else to do something I just don't fancy doing
snoozer, it's all a bit rubbish at the moment isn't it? Let's hope he's home soon..and that poor nurse...Well, hope you all get through the day OK too, hugs n stuff to the absent and wobbly....

Morning
I know what you mean about visitors Gers when I was stuck in for some time I didn't really like people visiting as my job was get better to go home not pander to their needs to talk rubbish! I remember some people on the same ward had people from 11-8, goodness knows what they found to say. A 10 min hello and a treat from the shop was ideal!
Was due a telephone appt with the practice nurse for an HRT assessment yesterday. Waited all day but didn't happen. Rang this morning and they put me straight through. 2 questions and it was done. What a waste of time and a whole day I won't get back Grrr
Still cleaning before the cleaner but I can't wait for her get here and hand it over! Going to be a busy house on Friday as the plumber is coming as well to sort out the heating issue. Expensive old day
Have a great day all11
