Can I pay into my current employer's pension if I start receiving another pension while working...?

I am in the fortunate position that in about 2 years time, when I'm 60, I will start receiving my Civil Service pension and also a Local Government pension. Neither pension increases/or increases significantly, as far as I'm aware, if I defer them until I'm 67 (my state pension retirement age), so I'll opt to receive them. At that point I will still be working and my employer's pension scheme is USS (I will have 10 years service at that point). My question is, can I still pay into the USS pension scheme whilst receiving a pension from another pension (2 pensions in fact)? I seem to think that there's a limit to the contributions in this case...
Trying hard to be a good moneysaver.

You are ok because both your pensions are Defined Benefit pensions.

if you receive 1p or more of taxable income from a defined contribution pension then there is the MPAA limit on you for life of £4000 per year.

Only if you access your DC benefits 'flexibly'. If you use your pot to buy an annuity, that doesn't count as 'flexible' so the MPAA doesn't apply. Nor does it apply if you access a DC pot using the 'small pots' regime.

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!
  • Nor does it apply to DB contributions, which seem relevant here.

Albeit USS isn't that simple anymore
