I second the recommendation for DuckDuckGo but can't say anything about Qwant as I have never used them.
I am using DDG (on "strong advice" from hubby) since about a year and it's MUCH better than G. Very occasionally I have trouble finding what I am looking for in which case I switch to G... but this happens once or twice per month. DDG also has very similar (if not identical) search options so it was a straightforward swap.
Also... we have switched browsers from Chrome to something called Vivaldi (apparently based on the same browser as Chrome) which comes with an ad blocker... so even if I have to use G I see no ads (same with most other sites of course). Bliss!
