I asked this question 6 months ago and was informed by Dazed & Confused not to worry but.....I still haven't been assessed for 20/21 as it states "Your tax has not been calculated yet. There  is no need to contact HMRC........" But my 21/22 year states "You have paid enough tax....."
Would you contact them or wait?

I think maybe the times come to be more proactive.

The fact that the latest (complete) year has been finalised before the prior year seems somewhat unusual and there must be a reason for this.

Try phoning at 8am and ask what is preventing that year from being finalised.

Are you on simple assessment?  I am and still, despite asking for it, have not yet received it although I have got the 21-22 assessment which included the amount due for 20-21.  It took 2 years to get the 18-19 through, but I didn't bother even asking for that.  As 19-20 was only about £8 I am assuming that they waived that.  We all know what assuning means - makes an !!!!!! out of you (as in HMRC) & me.  Self assessment was so much easier & they mostly got their money quicker.

If you have got a Simple Assessment for 2021:22 then I wouldn't be expecting anything for the previous tax year(s).

Have a look at the General Information section here,

I thought that if they wanted £100 that they would have to say why they wanted it.  At the very least so that the figures could be checked.  It took them until the end of 2020 to send me the assessment for 18-19, so a year late.  I am assuming that they have written off 19-20 as it would only be about £8.  I wouldn't bother too much but the DWP keeps sending them the wrong state pension figures, so I have to keep correcting them.  Simple assessment would be great if only it was simple, but it hasn't been yet.

Yes I assume that I am on a Simple Assessment. I was PAYE all my working life. I now have SP, BT pension and interest from savings. 3 years ago I earned a decent amount in interest which reduced my code and last year a pittance (more easily assessed). 20/21, I may owe a bit and by calling them may prompt them to demand figures from me if they failed to get them from the institutions.
