I would be entitled to the full stste pension as ive been in full time employment for 40 years.
Being in full time employment for forty years would not necessarily mean that you were entitled to full NSP.
You and your spouse come under transitional rules.
You might currently be in the position where you are entitled to full NSP, less than full NSP or more than full NSP.

If so, why not downsize now and have no mortgage?1 -
I'm afraid that a pension being used to pay off a mortgage would be the wrong way round.
