How does that work then? If I go to the checkout in Waitrose the total price is the same whether I use my Waitrose card or not. Where are the discounts advertised? If it’s one of these silly online things where you have to select items in advance of your shop I’m not interested. Nectar gives me discounts on things I often buy but the discounts are automatically applied as I shop. I work with computers and it is so easy to apply discounts in this way. Some retailers want their customers to manually manage discounts for psychological reasons so they feel ownership of the process by jumping through hoops and, sadly, many customers are willing to go along with it. I don’t understand why people don’t understand it!
  • I'm the person standing in a Waitrose aisle choosing my personal discount vouchers when I've seen what is in stock. It's a bit of a pain even for someone like me with a computing degree!
I try to maximise my Tesco clubcard vouchers by paying for my Morrisons/Waitrose/Sainsburys shop with  a Tesco credit card - Tesco shop is too far away. Clubcard Rewards then pay for Eurotunnel for motorhome holidays. Nothing else has a reward that matches that!

So was I. Then someone suggested I just pick the two best offers each week and scan the coupons, and it worked. There  is apparently no check against what you’ve bought.
Please note, I use Quick Check. I don’t know what would happen at a manned checkout, if the operator noticed you’d not bought the items.
  • I have Sainsburys, Tesco, Morrisons, and Co-op cards (basically, if there is a card I will have it!). I also have an M&S Sparks card which does Foodhall bonuses. Never bothered with Aldi as I feel like you have to spend a lot to get anything back?

Agreed Morrisons is pointless, and I very rarely shop there now as prices have gone up and the quality is rubbish.

Co-op is our nearest local, but horrifically expensive so I only really use that one for quick top ups or emergency shops. However, the money off coupons each week are decent and tailored to what you buy most - 50p off bread is usually my first pick for example. I maybe earn £2-3 back each year which I just buy some nice biscuits with at Christmas etc.

Tesco used to be my most used, but since moving we don't have one nearby and I don't drive. I maybe get £1.50 in vouchers at Christmas. My one tip for this is make sure to do the survey on your receipt as this can be an extra 25 points each month.

Sainsburys is now my main store, and I spend most of my £100 grocery budget here each month. I do take advantage of the points bonuses and average at around £50 in points each year - which pays for the Christmas shop! I do also have my eBay account linked which adds a few points on every so often.

M&S gets used very infrequently, usually if I've nipped into town and want to pick up a snack or something for dinner. I actually get a lot of offers for their Foodhall which are useful and occasionally those for free bread or biscuits which are always nice.
    Make £2025 in 2025 total £241.75/£2025

You can do this at the self checkout or at a manned checkout. I had £5 in vouchers on my phone for fancy Xmas food last week, and just bought regular items and it still took the £5 off.
The operator does not even see your vouchers on your phone, all they see is it reducing the bill.
My OH gets free newspapers this way as well, but I don't. Not sure why.
On the other hand I get sent paper vouchers , currently £14 off if you spend £90, but she does not get them . Strange.
