in Cutting tax
I understand that one doesn't pay NI contributions after their retirement age. In my case that was a couple of years ago although I am still self-employed and have filed returns every year. Does the government automatically refund any payment of contributions that I have made or do I have to request it somehow. I know I must have paid some contribution as the tax breakdown on the website indicates what I paid in NI contributions and in income tax.

What makes you think you have paid NI after the point it should have ended?0

Did you enter your date of birth on your return and tick the box on your return to indicate that you no longer paid CLASS 4 NIC
You can claim back here https://www.gov.uk/claim-national-insurance-refund if you have paid contributions when you don't need to.

Although you do still have to pay class 4 until the end of the year in which you reach SRA.
