  • Well, I dragged myself out of bed this morning and headed off to town to get my interview outfit for Thursday before the 1 Jan so it wouldn't count!!!!

I hate shopping in town now so much, why did it hold such thrills for me in years gone by :(

So, other than a treat takeaway tonight instead of going out,it's all systems go for tomorrow!!

    It's gonna be a toughie....

  • This morning I've been getting prepared for the challenge ahead, so far i've downgraded my BT account to option 1 & signed up for paper free billing. I've registered for 18185 to save on my telephone calls and I have increased my mortgage payments by £100 a month (if its not there i can't spend it) I'm going to go through the storecupboards and freezer now so when i go shopping i will only buy what i really need. :D

  • Well, seen as its the last day of the year and only half a day left before the challenge, Im going to be naughty and Im off to the big ole 'T' to do my grocery shopping, with a few extras. I know its abit naughty but its got to be done.

Also just worked out my sums and found out that after all bills have come out we are left with £29.09 for food and other bits for the week!!! Its going to be hard but there's only 2 off us!!! We've also started using the Pigsback site, so what we get from there should come in handy. Oh and the good ole' bike is going to be dusted off to get to work.

    Im determined to do this!!!:rotfl:

  • :o Hey Guys!

Just stumbled across this forum. Have never joined a forum or budgeted at all in my (almost 40!) years, but I would really like to give this challenge a go.

I am more than a little apprehensive and frankly, terrified  at the prospect, but i would like to take the plunge b4 I chicken out!

Have spent over an hour reading some of the postings here and I will have to trawl thru the lot in order to fully comprehend the challenge and set myself a target figure and don't wanna hassle you guys by asking Q's that have already been asked, so would it be poss to gimme a number and I give u my calculations at a later date - just as soon as I have a chance to do it...?

Have tried to calculate my in and outgoings with the budgeting planner :money: but this is all new and very confusing to me so I will need a bit of time to get my head around it!

Do so hope it's not too late to join...?

    Best Wishes and Regards,
    Thrifty ;)

OMG, I'm so excited today (unreasonably, but even so). In my original budget for the year - which has had to be slightly amended due to forgetting to budget for family birthdays - I budgeted for £112 for Aveda hair stuff. I went to buy the whole lot today because I wanted to put it on my cashback credit card before the cashback period runs out in a couple of weeks.

I usually buy hair stuff in 250ml bottles, but it turns out that they now do 1 litre bottles which work out as so much cheaper. Very pleased with myself as I've saved £20 for the year! Hurrah! AND when I went to the desk to pay, apparently if you buy 2 litres of anything (1 shampoo and 1 conditioner) you get a free salon paddle hairbrush. Which I don't need, but I was going throw out my old tatty Woolworths one anyway! :D

So that was my first - and rather unexpected - effort for money saving in my budget this year!

(And before anyone yells that it's a lot for hairstuff, I know. But it's a luxury I'm prepared to pay for. ;) )
' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
  • Ive been looking at my finances for this challenge, and im sure its totally do-able. Im really excited about it. Ive worked out that by doing this, I can save about 10k in a year, so im gonna give it a few months, then begin upping my payment to our mortgage. Im so excited.:T

    Hi everyone

I first came across this thread when it was only 2 pages old! WOW, hasn't it grown!

At first I thought there would be no way I could do it, yet have been constantly drawn back to it. So what the heck, put me down! Will have to work out some figures and get back to you with an amount though, if thats OK?

Have to admit, I'm a bit confused as to what to count as looking through the posts, people have included different things. Anyone got a diffinative list or are we tailoring it to our own circumstances if you see what I mean?
