Hi Marru, I meant the Government will make the money from the landfill tax if the goods don't get sold. You would think this, alone, would encourage them to reduce their waste.
Sorry my misunderstanding.

Hope everyone is well.i can't believe we're into March already.I managed to be a little under budget last month but I will have to look at my "extra" spending a bit more and see if I can reduce it. My dad also left me a bottle of wine to enjoy this evening so I'm having a totally free night.Fantasticlost my way but now I'm back ! roll on 2013

And Oh yeah I'm saving up for a washing line!
When I have paid off the mortgage on this shared ownership flat I hope I'll be able to sell it and have at least a 50% deposit for a proper place in the same town (about 100 miles from London and everything is the same price as an OK area in london!)0 -
Hi CA, I think alot of us do unnecessary spending when we are worried, and having an ill mother in hospital will defiantly give cause for worry. so dont beat yourself too hard over your blow out.
As for the whole, out doing each other at mothers day, Nahhhh, I got a card for 99p finally paid mate back for it, the cake for £1.48 and today I picked a selection of cheese up for her, reduced yet got till mid April to be used, Castello cheese 50p instead of £1.68 13/04/08 Irish Chedder 52p instead of £1.73 04/04/08 and Manchego 57p instead of £2.50 13/03/08 (£1.59 instead of a total of £5.91) also bought same for myself.

WendyW you are very welcome to join us and I'll get you a challenger number as soon as you have worked out your budget.
Welcome on board. Oh, and I am a very, very, very young gran! :rotfl:
I've only just caught up with the posts, so I'm sorry if I have repeated anything. My grumble about tax was more to do with waste than anything else and I try to avoid paying it on foodstuffs it if I can, hence the reason you seldom find chocolate biscuits, crisps or juice in this household and, before Marky pops up to correct me, I don't buy bottled water, I drink tap water, I don't buy readymeals or takeaway but I do occasionally buy Jaffa Cakes which, I believe, are zero rated?Perhaps you could let us know the correct amount of tax is incorporated into a £5 pack of cigarettes? I had it at around 80%
No, I am not an accountant, nor do I know much about tax. I just have a bit of a problem with the concept that anyone on a low income is classed as sponging off the 'taxpayers' when they really mean fulltime employed income tax payers and then overlook the 'fact' that an accountant's job is err... write off as much against tax as possible and help avoid paying it?
Anyway, I did say I would count up what tax I had paid so far (excluding PAYE income tax and council tax) and to date it looks like £68 plus anything charged on my groceries, so that's about 7% of my total spend. So there you go - everyone pays tax in some way, shape or form and it is virtually impossible not to. I believe even used cooking oil is subject to standard rate VAT if it's being sold for conversion to fuel.
Marru & Bails - if it's adjoining small-holdings, couldn't we ask if they'll do a buy 2 get 1 free and then split the difference?
I've had a no spend day today again. I've nominated tomorrow and Monday as spend days and am hitting the supermarket tomorrow - weather permitting! My cheap day of entertainment will involve a nice Sunday drive, a picnic, a stroll along the river and a trip to Tesco. Yes, I guess that is a strange request for Mother's Day, but when you don't have a car and you don't live near a major chain supermarket, then the prospect of a day out with a trip to Tesco is quite exciting! Especially when you have vouchers for extra points and a free 'bag for life'. :j :j :j
Marky - you should join in the pressie shopping challenges - my budget is £500 for everything for the year and I'm making most of the 'occasional' ones; have you tried the papier mache animal banks yet? The one in my avatar is called 'Phil' the pig - he's a bank.I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hi Nyk,
Thanks for the giggle about that buy 2 get one free. Fantastic!
I am trying to write a short story to send it to a competition. The prize is £150.- and deadline is 11.59 pm tonight. I don't know who I am kidding as I am (as you have probably guessed) not native English speaker but I am giving it a go anyway. I should count how many words I have done so far so I know if I should strat wrapping my story to end it or try to stretch it a bit longer but my printer decided not to work need to count on screen.
NSD today as decided not to go out untill the house looks tidier. It might take couple of more days untill I can venture out again.

Cor, I can't keep up with the posts because my typing it toooooooooo slow! :rotfl:
Jay, pleased to see you joining the washing liners and thank you for the Mother's Day wish. I've a funny feeling my lot have forgotten too, but I did speak to my mum tonight when she called to say her 'wee pressie' and card arrived safely and that she loved it (homemade) :T
Skintwellie - Congratulations with the electricity savings and the paint bargain! Highly impressive!
CA - I hope your mum gets better soon, send her our very best wishes
Mini - I think you are right; the fenceposts are usually on the owner's side of the fence whether it's a garden or a field.
Molly - enjoy your wine
Penny - that was a great deal you got on the cheeses! I'd quite like that as a gift - my downfall = cheese and the price of cheese, these days, is getting to be ridiculous, don't you think?
Have I caught up with everyone yet? No, I haven't :rotfl:
Marru - I would never have guessed that English was not your first language! I shall refrain from too many Scots words, as that could certainly confuse you, and good luck with the short story competition.I reserve the right not to spend.

Thank you for your kind words. In my first job in this country I had an assistant who was a Scot, I didn't understand a word he said and he didn't have clue about bookkeeping - what a pair! I have come a long way since. Story has been sent (27 minutes before deadline). Would've liked to edit it but LO woke up (I know it is middle of the night) so need to go and sort her out. She says that she has a bad tummy.
Happy Mothers Day for everybody.
