    It's not for me.

December's income is equal to my rent alone.
December's council tax/water will be coming out of savings before I start.
So not earning enough to join in.

I gave up my job to study so am living on savings really.

So I'll give it a miss. I'd rather just concentrate on other things for now. But I'll be watching!

    Good luck!
  • Well, i was budgetting about 4k for my honeymoon in June. Guess there's not a lot left over for the rest of the year. Enjoy the budgeting people but this does sound like something for people either in debt or saving for a certain thing (e.g. home deposit)

Are we a very select group of paupers?
Perhaps that's what Ringo's asking? :rotfl:

Hope you are all prepared for a bit of a laugh during the next year because trying to achieve this is hysterical!

I hereby do declare that I shall try my best to keep within a budget of £4,000 throughout the entire year of 2008 and, with each weekly success, shall annoy you all with my extremely jiggly, happy, FREE smiley happy116.gif

I have now started the updates on post 1 so we have a number for our signatures.
My target, after rent and council tax is £4,000. My budget for presents, including Christmas 2008, is £520. That means I have £3,480 (equivalent to £66.55 per week plus £10 into a savings account for next Christmas) to pay all my bills and eat. Every penny over that is going into my various savings challenges.

The challenge starts on 1st January 2008 - CHEAT! Fill your freezers and cupboards whenever you have the chance!! ROFL (Edited in - This part was a joke! As we all know, it is much more economical to keep fridges and freezers as full as possible at all times, even if it's with milk cartons filled with water :) )
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

  • To be honest, yes. I don't know why anyone without debts or with a home would want to put themselves under the strain of coping on a severely limited budget without just cause. I'm saving and cost cutting myself so I can afford my honeymoon; I'm not flush enough to be able to afford it without cutting corners and reducing my outgoings. I've also taken on freelance work to do over Christmas. I'm all for 'saving X over the course of Y months', but reducing my outgoings purely for the sake of it, with no goals or reason? I just think it's misguided

Ringo - the reason is simple and you just said it; "I'm saving and cost cutting myself so I can afford my honeymoon; I'm not flush enough to be able to afford it without cutting corners and reducing my outgoings".

That is exactly what we are doing (not the honeymoon part). The reason is to clear debts or increase savings, the goal is to be debt free and/or have savings to pay for whatever each person is saving for - I'm saving for a house.
