nyk I have just remembered your number ocd so I will round it down to £4900 as my target0

nyk - could you add me to the list please? I've been on my own for ten years and have gotten into awful debt and need to get myself out. Have decided that 2008 is the year I stop feeling sorry for myself and take positive action towards getting out of debt!Lightbulb moment 28th December 2007

Sealed pot challenge no. 3150 -
It's not often Martin makes me cross .. but this challenge is an 'insult' to all those people on basic pensions and the disabled .. flamin' cheek I call it .. my income is jusy £5000 .. that's it .. from that I have to pay for everything INCLUDING rent, mortgage payments, council tax or water rates essential work related expenses or 'luxury' items such as holidays ..
I am long term disabled .. I've been on a low income for the last 15 years .. I haven't had a holiday for 15 years, I don't go out, don't drink, don't smoke, don't socialise .. so I'd love to have the LUXURY of £4000 to live on for a year .. (without rent etc) .. woohooo .. with £4000 I'd be RICH ... compared with my present bread line existence ..
So for once Martin .. you've made me very, very angry ...0 -
Hello Patootie,
I am sorry that you feel so angry about this challenge. It is not meant to be rubbing anyone's noses in it.
Although my challenge amount doesn't include rent/mortgage or anything, I still don't consider that I will be even able to have a holiday (haven't had one for the past 6 years for various reasons).
The beauty of this challenge is that the target can be adapted to each person's own circumstances. Why don't you join us with a target of £5K? After 15 years you must have some great tips for us on how to manage successfully. It would be really good to have you on board.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
I forgot to say, you can include everything in yor target amount, rent etc. It will inspire us all to make even greater cuts; I'm quite excited about the prospect of having you in the team.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Patootie, I don't think the op intended to insult anyone. I spent many several years living below benefit levels at one point and understand that this figure is to some people a lot of money. I think this challenge is designed to help people who have lived above this amount an want and/ or need to cut back.
If you are used to living on £5000 your input will be very valuable
I personally have chosen to join because my spending needs kept in tight check as I am a single parent and may need to move house this year.
I would encourage you to have a wee look at the comping forum if you don't have many luxuries in your life. You could have lots of fun and win some nice prizes. I notice you mention no holiday. I won five short breaks in 2007. I wouldn't have taken a holiday last year without these wins.0 -
im interested in the challange as well i would love to take part could you please give me some more info on how this works thanks

Hello Patootie, I'm really sorry that this challenge has upset you. Alot of people who are doing the challenge have families, we for example are a family of 4 adults & 1 child so although it may seem alot to live on when you look at peoples individual circumstances it isn't really a huge amount. Ours equates to just under £19 each per week for everything except rent, council tax, w.rates, tv lic & phone.0

I would encourage you to have a wee look at the comping forum.
Hi Prudent,
Just to go off track for a second. Do you sell on most of the things you win or keep them?
I have been sniffing through the posts on the comping threads and am thinking of getting heavily involved in comping.I'm the only gay in this forum
