Last week I had a letter to say I have won an organic veggie box once a week for three months, so that should help nicely.
:j Well done Prudent! I get organic fruit n veg bags once a week via my children's primary school. It is a fund-raising scheme run by 'friends' of the school. I think the school gets 40% and obviously we are supporting the organic farmers too so although it probably costs more than a usual abel and cole box, I reckon it's worth it. Actually thought i would not be able to continue with it, but as cuts have been made elsewhere, am managing to after all :D

Anyway prudent, it costs me £11.50 a week  so you have done really well to win that! :T

    Hi Janey51
I don't want to discourage you but I reckon some of that rise is down to BG and not your fault at all.

Hi redglass. As we are on the rate frozen until 2010 should the recent fuel rises make a difference? I hope not

    Hello All,

Did well today, in some ways. Went to Boots to get my brother some razor blades. Got another of the £5 off facial skincare stuff (offer ends tomorrow) so got some really nice cleanser stuff for an extra £2. I decided that these virtually-freebies will got into a hamper for myself that I will let OH and DS give me as part of my Bday present (bad memory-so I will have forgotten what's in it by my bday).

Car parts cost £78.63 in total but brother is not charging me labour so that's great.

Used our Burger King vouchers today, so spent £19.30 in total for 4 of us, including dessert. Had breakfast & lunch at parents' today so that helped keep costs down.

OH is also looking at doing some part time temp work to help us out in Feb/March, so have to see if that pans out. Am very pleased with him (on a slightly different subject) as he wants to do some freelance photography and has finally - after a lull in my nagging - got around to sending off some photos to various places. Fingers crossed.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

Can I join in the challenge? I have been following it throughout Jan and trying to keep spending in check, so far so good.
I noticed that water rates are excluded, however would it be possible to include water rates (we are on a meter) and exclude house ins - the OH pays for that.
I am desperately trying to reduce my electric consumption, currently running at an average of 20 units per day. I turn off all the stand - bys, have energy saving lights, don't use the main oven if possible and have oil central heating - any ideas. I use a slow cooker a lot and the oven programme of the micro wave. Don't know where I'm going wrong. I used the main oven yesterday and the consumption went up to 27units.
I am not quite there in frugality idealism yet, it rather feels as if we are constantly living on 'leftovers'.
So tonights tea is scotch eggs - (eggs from Hetty and Hoppy) with vegs from the freezer that were frozen in the summer.
    Apple and ? for afters.
January food 175.00 spent 181.60 oops nothing left. £4000 challenge/3384.49 left
    heating oil £396.69,

Have spent a bit today but not worried ;)
Spent £26.95 in Mr T. Had an unexpected trip out with DH so decided to make the most of it.
Got some bargains in the clothes line in a couple of local charity shops including a Regatta raincoat for £6 and a Next hooded thick knitted jacket for £3. I'm not counting the clothes in my budget as it was Christmas money :D
Also got some thick rubble bags to use for growing potatoes.

I have been looking at the Competitions Board and have entered a few free ones. Signed up for a few newsletters and I had an email from Baxters Foods to say that not only was I entered in the monthly draw to win £250 but they are sending vouchers for £1.50 to spend on their products :T

My first 2 weeks are up today and my third week starts tomorrow. I am feeling pretty chuffed with how things have gone and I still have £38.14 to last me until the 31st but will need petrol tomorrow as I'm back at work.

Jacks, do you have a slow cooker? My mum does an amazing goulash in the slow cooker, and if you've got one, i'll get the recipe off her for you :)

That would be fab cherub, :T I don't make nearly enough use of the SC, and my family like goulash.

    Cheers sweetie! :A

    Love Jacks xxx :D

£50 - on the MIL????????!!!!!!!!!! :p  :p

Actually Jacksxxx........you are going to be the reason for me confessing to a spend when my bank balance updates overnight......... .......Facebook and a certain video you added to my page?? I bought the album.......:o although I searched for the cheapest place - Tesco Jersey. :D

So folks........if I overspend by £8 odd this year - blame Jacks for having good tastes in music and tempting me !! :rotfl:

    OOh I'm such a bad influence!! :D :D:D

You did it in true MSE style though by checking out the tunes first and finding the best deal - and we have got to have *some* fun haven't we?

I hope you find it the best £8 you spend all year, and I'm glad to have found a fellow fan!

If they play any gigs down your way I could come down on the train and we can jump up and down at the front! (Ok - maybe not with my boobs! :D ) We could get gently sloshed at the back and chat up the soundman instead then? :D

    Love Jacks xxx :D
