Cavity wall insulation, not sure if we're suitable?

Sorry, not sure whether to post here or in the energy forum, here goes anyway!
We have a pretty standard (brick and breezeblock with cavity inbetween) construction, 1970's detatched 2 story house. There is no cavity wall insulation and I remember being told many years ago that our property was not suitable for this as our house is a bit exposed gets a lot of wind and rain blowing in from the west during the winter (and lets face it, the rest of the year too, we live in Scotland!). I was just wondering if anyone knew if this was still the case or if insulation materials/techniques have moved on in recent years?
I know I'll probably have to get someone out to survey the property but I always like to have as much information as possible before meeting someone who is going to try to sell me something.
Thanks in advance
Steve
