Lidl items with (sometimes significant) less content than stated

  • The underweight Lidl packs sometimes confuse their automated tills - buy something that weighs less than it should and the till doesn't think you've added it to your shopping bags. I've had it a few times with nuts and butter. The assistants are very good at ignoring the "shall I go back and get one that actually weighs what it's supposed to?" comments.

  • I had this with the larger packs of MandS butter last week - was supposed to weigh 500g but was only 475 which I think is quite a bit under

I agree that's a lot, but it's within the law.

The "tolerable negative error" for a 500g pack is 15g and no pack is allowed to be underweight by more than twice the TNE.  In other words, every pack must weigh at least 470g.
  • I found this in Sainsbury's. The supplier hadn't had time to alter the bulk container these soap capsules came in but a 5% reduction sneaked in under the radar. Manager not the slightest bit helpful.

In what way did you expect the manager to help?
Chuck another capsule in, cross out the 20 and mark as 19 or recalculate the price per Kg?

Pods are the most expensive way to buying laundry cleaners in and can gunk up the machine and pipes long term.  Also you have no control so if doing a half load you can't cut them in half.  I get powder from Aldi its £3.39 for 40 washes and you don't need as much as they say.  So can get more washing out of each box

I bought a tin of Chilli Con Carne 395g, decided to split it for two meals, so weighed it into 2 portions, it came out at 360g.  It was the same with the asda one I bought as well.  The tins were full as well, so not sure where the extra weight was supposed to go.  I haven't found this with other tinned food.
