Win 10 File Explorer 'forgetting' folder name changes ...
"Solved it. I just copied the whole folder in question onto an external hard drive, deleted the original, and put the copy back on. Name changes are sticking now.
Can't believe the solution was that simple, still no idea why that happened in the first place though."
Yeah, I saw that one. Not tried yet, would like to see if I can get to the "why" before I do ....
if you are asking 'why' in the context of windows then be prepared for the long haul !
I'll settle for just finding the solution
To complicate matters, the PC concerned, and its internal HDD, provides the source for my music streamer, which is connected to the PC over Ethernet. Since Windoze is retaining the old folder name in the Network File or Folder Name field, the display on the streamer is also showing the 'old' folder name, not the renamed one. Which gives me more impetus to find the solution....
I've resorted to the long-winded cludge to fix this.
Find rogue folder. F2, then Copy folder name to clipboard Create new folder, paste name onto it, append "NEW" to folder name Cut content from rogue folder into newly-created folder Delete rogue folder Rename new folder to remove "NEW" and leave it with same name as was intended for rogue.
