Network railcard discount for off peak day travelcards?

Hi,
is there a way to buy a non-paper off peak day travelcard for London with the 30% discount of the Network Railcard?
Every time I have to buy the paper ticket in advance, and unavoidably it doesn't let me through at most of the gates:
- the white ticket released by the underground stations doesn't work at the rail stations like Liverpool street
- the orange ticket released by the rail stations doesn't work at the underground stations

Besides being very annoying, several times the gates were closed, the assistant had gone missing and I had to take the tube to go to a more crowded station.

I've asked several time to TFL if there's a way to associate a debit card or the oyster to the network railcard to get the discounted price, but they never replied.

Is there an alternative to the paper ticket?

And no, before you ask: I'm not willing to spend 5 pounds more if i can spend 5 pounds less, even if I had to use a ticket as big and heavy as a bag of flour  :-)

Thanks

If you want a Network Railcard discounted Travelcard, a magnetic paper ticket is your only option at present.

  • I use a paper day travel card  with senior railcard regularly and never had any issues with it being accepted by underground gates. I wouldn't think Network Card ones would be any different.

I do find that some National Rail stations (London Bridge comes to mind) often have their barriers set to reject all railcard discounted tickets so that the entitlement can be manually checked.

  • Update. TFL replied to my last message saying
    >>A discount can be applied to an oyster card and will give 30 percent off of peak journey's as you travel.
so I bought an oyster, but when i tried to link it to the network railcard the clerks said that it's not possible (it seems that it was possible in the past).

On the other hand the key card (SE in my case) *does* permit to buy a day travelcard at a discounted price and load it on the card. I wonder if it's actually accepted by the gates.

It's never been possible to link a Network Railcard to an Oyster card.

(The confusion at TfL may have been between the catch-all term National Railcard and the specific Network Railcard product)
