Nearly 4 decades later.......

Hi everyone

After nearly 40 years, during which time I got divorced, buying my ex out of our house and remarrying a man with a similar experience, we are now looking to be mortgage free next year!!!  We sold our respective family homes 8 years ago, bought a house together and have been overpaying the mortgage to try to get rid of it before retirement.  Although he is now retired due to redundancy, I'm looking at being able to retire in less than 2 years mortgage free.

We're advocates of overpaying a mortgage with whatever you can afford and are proof it works, as we shaved almost 4 years off the term 😀
Looking forward to sharing our journey with anyone who wants to join us xx

  • We have decided to throw all we can at this and repay in March 2023 instead of May!  It may seem daft to join a forum so close to the mortgage free date, but after Having a mortgage aged 20, I can't quite believe this is happening.

so.... Grumpy (affectionate nickname) has put together a spreadsheet to calculate our mortgage interest, overpayments etc, we've set up an overpayment account as we can only overpay 10% a year into the mortgage account and we've reached that, I've got a bag of coins to take to the bank to add to the overpayment account and I already meal plan and budget which a has allowed the OP to happen in the first place.

Happy Tuesday.  Off to work x
