Battery and Inverter in the loft or somewhere more accessible?

Options
My install is looming (17 Nov) and I get the impression from the guy that did the survey that they will install Battery and Inverter in the loft. He didn't ask me my preferred location which would be in my converted garage/office (providing no noise/heat sync issues in the summer etc. I admit have concerns about intense heat an cold in the loft area. Any advice or experience of this would be appreciated

Is your Garage attached to your house or a gap between?

My inverter is in my garage which is attached. Installers were more than happy to put it in there.

Attached to house, main fuseboard is in there if that makes any difference?

Loft could get very hot in summer. Garage would be a good location, ours is on the side wall of the house.

If you have room on the wall of Garage for Inverter and Battery it would seem the obvious spot. All you can do is ask and if they say no. Find out why? Comeback to the boards with whatever reason if its a negative reply. Someone on here will be able to advise you if its correct.

  • I am sure they will thank you. Those batteries are not light to lift up a loft ladder!
  • Will do Merlin, and @2nd_time_buyer :D

My inverter and batteries are in the integral garage, next to the consumer unit. Simplest way to do install.

The inverter does get pretty hot at times of peak generation in summer, not sure how that would be if you use the garage as an office.

  • My inverter is in the loft on the gable end wall.
Initially the battery was going up there but due to the wèight it's now in my upstairs airing cupboard.
I'd have liked it in the garage but it's not attached and no consumer unit so wasn't really an option.
I'd definitely ask them to put it in your garage, it'll make access in future so much easier, inverters and batteries look pretty tidy too so can't imagine it'll look out of place.

Not sure myself, it already has a few computers and monitors running, which add to the warmth. I was more concerned with the big temperature differences that will happen in the loft, probably -2/3 degrees to +40 degrees and the effect that will have on the life of inverter and battery
