I just checked my wifes forecase etc and these are the details:
My wife is 53, used to work as part of our own company, but now it's only me that works.
You can get your State Pension on 11 May 2036 Your forecast is £185.15 a week, £805.07 a month, £9,660.86 a year.
Estimate based on your National Insurance record up to 5 April 2022 - 178.72
Forecast if you contribute another 2 years before 5 April 2036 - £185.15
So from that I surmise we either have to buy or she has to work for two years.
NI Record
2017-2018 - year not full
2014-2015 - year not full
2012-2013 - year not full
Now my other question is this - we were in receipt of child allowance until my son turned 16 ( in 2016 ), so surely the last two would have been complete based on that?
Thanks for any insight / help.
I can "buy" two years - one at £713 ( as that had 7 weeks ) and one at £824 but wanted to make sure thats right first.

The rules were changed in 2010 such that child benefit only gives NI credits up to 12 instead of 16:DE_612183 said:Now my other question is this - we were in receipt of child allowance until my son turned 16 ( in 2016 ), so surely the last two would have been complete based on that?

Buying one year will give an additional £5.29, taking your wife up to £184.01. So buying the second year will only give her an additional £1.14 per week. Something to consider before buying both years?

Might be useful reading: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/savings/voluntary-national-insurance-contributions/Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1

Any Grandchildren she can claim specified adult credits for?
Doesn’t have to be permanent care, just an hour or two a week counts, you claim it from the Daughter/Son claiming Child benefit.0 -
We;d need to know a bit more detail to be sure, but filling the two pre-2016 years may not (probably won't ?) boost her forecast. Concentrate on the 2017-18 one first. How many full NI years pre-2016 does she have ?
