Halifax charging YOU ! for calling their mortgage advisors.

Just a heads up.

I recently had to call Halifax to organise a product transfer on my own mortgage. I had to speak to an advisor on a number beginning 0345. This number was emailed to me as the contact number for the advisor and nowhere in that email does it say that calls are charged to that at 8p a minute from a landline.

Now, arranging a mortgage is not a 5 minute exercise and even then you'll probably be held in a queue for a good while before you get to speak to anyone.

I was charged £5.72 for a call lasting 1hr 25 minutes (including queuing).  It's not the sum of money involved but the principle. Charging for calls seems underhand and not warning you beforehand isn't on either.

I called complaints and was instantly offered £20 which I accepted.

0345 numbers are usually charged at the same rate as geographic numbers.
I call 0345 numbers all day long and never pay a penny.

What your phone calls cost depends on what tariff you're on - nobody else knows that. Up to you to check.

You used the phone and got charged at a local rate.  Most mobile phones and many landline packages would have 0345 included within the free calls.    The lender is not responsible for your choice of phone tariff.

They dont need to as its not premium rate.and its not a freephone number.
