Very recently returned to comping, haven’t really done much over last 6-8 years…I’ve definitely noticed that there’s fewer comps - sign of the times, perhaps…
anyway I’ve a few questions:
- which comps appear to be more successful for campers here? Do the MD comps get won by real people, or is it just a way to generate site traffic?
-IG - many comps are on insta, is it worth starting an account..?
any advice or suggestions much appreciated, and apologies if I’ve asked daft questions

- I personally have the most success on instagram competitions. A fair few members of the forum win on MDs so they're definitely legit
- it's up to you - whatever works best for you. If you do start an account, make sure it doesn't look 'fake', so put some pics up etc. Also look into how the Instagram algorithm works because people get banned for spamming because they tag too many people. Be warned for scams too where people will try and impersonate the prize givers account to try and get bank deets from you.
Hope this helps 😊3 -
Do the MD comps get won by real people, or is it just a way to generate site traffic?
Daily entries for what are quite often relatively small prizes generates a lot of traffic for very little cost so no need for "fake" winners2 -
I've won quite a few Mag Daily prizes, including one a week ago - a weighted blanket from Women's Health magazine.

Fewer comps
Sadly a lot of the regular posters left when the site changed, due to lots of faults in the system and other things causing frustration.
I feel there are more competitions out there due to social media, but a lot more smaller prizes and loads more people entering.
The Competition Time section of MSE are slowly filling up again with competitions, so thank you to those adding them!
Most wins
Gleams and Facebook were where all my wins used to come from. At the moment it is instant wins (usually because there are more prizes per competition), Gleams and Web forms.
Mag Dailies
I rarely enter Mag Dailies, purely because I feel my time is better spent entering competitions once, when everyone has only one entry. Otherwise you can spend most of my time entering for one prize, yet you aren't necessarily going to win. So I have a lot of mag daily accounts and occasionally enter, but usually just the once. I won from Marie Claire in February, but rarely entered any at the moment. I wouldn't bother with the guess the three numbers, only the one where you are guaranteed an entry if you get the answer correct and has an end date.
Instagram
Instagram often blocks or gives daily/weekly bans on accounts that come up as spamming, which people's accounts do if they enter competitions, as they are often tagging friends. If you are going to enter, make an account that looks genuine and not just for competitions. Tag people that don't mind being tagged, sadly the thread on this forum was removed, as we aren't allowed to share our usernames for other accounts, due to personal protection.
I've won a few on Instagram, but don't focus hard on entering on there, as a lot of them you can enter as many times as you like.
If you do tag a friend, add a short sentence or a different emoji on each tagged comment, or the system will likely automatically mark it, that you are spamming. Especially new accounts.
No such thing as a daft question if you are willing to learn the answer and don't know. Feel free to ask anything you'd like to, I also don't mind private messages, if you'd prefer to ask something in private, but posting on the forum will likely get you more responses.
Good Luck!
Thank you to everyone who posts competitions and good luck to everyone who enters.8 -
I've won quite a few of the mag daily ones with my best win being a summer holiday to Chamonix which was a fantastic experience. This was off just the one entry.6

I've won 36 comps this year with the following breakdown:
11/36 - Instagram
11/36 - WEB
7/36 - Gleam
3/36 - RC
2/36 - Twitter
2/36 - Mag Dailies
The mag dailies I won I only entered once for. However as I post Cosmo, House Beautiful & Marie Claire, I do enter these daily and have won nothing! Last year I did win a Crystal Maze Experience from an MD so is worth entering them.
I think Instagram is worth it, I've won some really nice things this year. I only comment one name on each post and have managed to avoid being blocked. However I also post a lot on my account so it doesn't look spammy. You could use it just to post your winnings!
I used to win a lot on Twitter but I have hit my follower limit which makes it difficult now so I don't use it as much.
Wins in 2023 - 35
Wins in 2022 - 43
Wins in 2021 - 62
Wins in 2020 - 68
Wins in 2019 - 56 -
I use instagram with family and friends a bit. So many competitions are insta based. If you follow companies , are you doomed to their reels etc everyday or can you avoid this somehow. Those of you who have been lucky winners, was it only by liking post, following and tagging? i have heard that it is best to save the post so you can see if you won, but found it hard to keep track of any of it. A while ago I entered quite a few but gave up when I realised I wouldn't know if I had won as I don't normally visit their sites. I would love to know a way to make it work as so many good prizes are on there.1

@broughton - I've won on a few Insta comps doing the usual 'Follow, Like, Tag'. But I don't do ones that also require you to Share to your story, as I don't want my account to be filled with that stuff. I also never save any posts unless it specifically asks you to as part of the comp entry. When I've won, they have sent me a DM and also tagged me in a post - so you receive notifications that will alert you (providing you haven't turned notifications off!) - so you shouldn't have to keep checking their accounts. That's my experience anyway.
Just one thing - be wary of the many scammers jumping on the comping bandwagon. Many times I'll enter a comp, and the next day or so I get notified that so-and-so has started following me. When I check, they have started an account with a very similar name to the legit company. Just block 'em!
Luckily I got my Insta 'comping friends' from the now-deleted list that @Ms_Dee referred to. Shame it's been taken down. You can DM me on here if you need another person to tag, and I'll get back to you.2
