Two or more CC defaults showing on your credit history does not equate to being 'financially sound'. Quite the opposite, which is what your bank and the finance co. have already concluded.

I have been turned down for a car pcp with whom I have a pcp and my bank for a personal loan for a car.  Both have used credit agencies scores with whom I have defaulted over credit cards less than six years ago.
Having any kind of default on your credit file will almost certainly result in an instant decline.

No secret why you were refused credit, defaults are almost as bad as having an insolvency or a cifas marker on your account, any of which will result in a similar refusal.
