Stolen identity

Long story short we had a serious mugging in the family two guys in balaclavas with knives. They got phone and all information on it.
the police and victim support were very good at the time, but it wasn’t until sometime after we found out it was their MO organised criminal gang who used the information to steal identity
we are now getting letters and debt collection people calling round regular basis from all sorts of companies we never heard of
try explaining and giving them crime reference numbers but they just say have you reported it to so and so and we say no this is the first we hear of your company and this new debt you say we owe!
it’s been a nightmare being on hold and passed around different departments only to find they keep sending out new debt collection people from a new company they sold the debt onto ect ect
we are now resigned to the fact that previous perfect credit file is absolutely ruined but this is the safest thing now. It is perhaps the only way to stop new cards and accounts being started by means of stolen identity.
we have also been put in touch with and talking to various departments the police tell us to.
one option was the DRO as we do qualify apparently
the good thing is we rent and no asserts as we are poor due to the financial crisis
if we go ahead with the dro will that stop the intimidation and the brutes calling at our door saying they will remove goods and not interested in all the times we been on the phone on hold trying to tell the right departments what happened!

Total debts ere over £30K which would be too much for Dro
but a few of the largest and the earliest we found out about do now recognise them as fraud from stolen identity and being handled by relevant police departments so these should not be counted?
but we keep hearing about new accounts and things that are taken out and it’s such a headache
we will try a dro and include as many of the debts as we can but fear there are still some other we have yet to find out about0 -
Have you accessed your credit file to see what’s on there?1

m but this is a good thing because the police couldn’t stop further stolen identity theft at all
but my credit file having all these defaults is probably the best way to stop further things0 -
These people tend to bleed what they can from a victim, then once the well runs dry, move on to the next one.
So, in a way, with your credit file being so terrible, it should stop further fraud.
I really do sympathise with you as the law is sadly lacking in support for those who find this happening to them, and as this is the bankruptcy sub board, further comment is best made on the DFW board instead.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Talk to CIFAS, a preventative marker might be a pain, but it would stop further fraud. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing2
