Steamer for both clothes and general cleaning - anything worth getting?

Hi there.
We bought one of these, a few years back:
Philips GC6730/36 Fast Care Compact Steam Generator with Boost for Faster Ironing, 1.3 Litre, 2400 W : Amazon.co.uk: Home & Kitchen
and to tell you the truth, we just never got on with it.
This is more to do with my skills, rather than the product. However, we are finding that ironing with it just isn't worth it - my skills (despite watching numerous youtube videos and a lot of practice) are not good enough to produce anything really acceptable, plus we are finding ironing just a few items seems to take ages and the steam means there is water all over the ironing board, which has started to rust.
All of this has meant that we avoid doing much ironing, but I am trying to remedy this.
We did try holding the iron, vertically, against some hanging shirts and noted that the shirts came out pretty well. The only issue is that the iron can only do bursts of heavy steam in 2 second intervals so not really fit for this purpose.
I was looking into getting a dedicated clothes steamer, as opposed to an iron. Even though I suspect that it just cannot match the results of a proper steam iron, it is going to be used a lot more than our current iron, for the reasons mentioned above.
However - it occurred to me that there are lots of areas in our house that might benefit from steam cleaning in our house, generally - cooker, windows sills, bathroom etc.
Ultimately, is there a decent device that can be used for both cleaning and decreasing clothes? Or do you really have to get separate devices for each?
