BT Home Essentials broadband

Hello
Has anyone got on to the BT Home Essentials broadband with BT? I had seen it referenced on the MSE site. I thought it was a tariff as such. When I asked to move to it, BT has now moved me on to some sort of flashy broadband with digital voice for which I now need a special type of digital voice phone which can then be used to make phone calls through the BT Hub. I'm not certain of all this technology, and definitely didn't ask for it. Apparently, home phone will not be able to be used if WiFi is down or there is a power cut now! Does anyone else have any experience of this? Apparently all landlines will move to this technology by 2025.

I am on this tariff. I wasn't told that my calls would be via VOIP when I applied for it and only found out when they actually came to connect me either, but it was so much cheaper than other phone and broadband that I decided to keep it. You can still use you basic landline phone by plugging it in at the back of your router but it will not work if there is a power cut.1

I'm on this plan also on the same package and I opted for the £20 a month package mainly because of the speed 74Mb as opposed to 36Mb and that's because I like to watch catch up TV and Films.
The phone? Well it is a bonus but quite frankly I use my mobile when calling any number in the UK but if I wanted to call a landline down South then I can do so for free using the BT digital phone.Bear in mind though that BT are doing away with ALL copper wire lines in to houses by 2025, like it or not, we will all have to go down this road
For the price I think it is a good deal1 -
Yes, all land lines will become VOIP very soon, so no internet or power, no landline.Old enough to know better...........1
