I need to borrow £100 for 6 days. Which is the best payday loan provider to go through for this?

I have looked online and many of them seem fishy.

Thanks.

It is unlikely that anyone on here would recommend a payday loan company - or even encourage a payday loan at all.  There will be other ways of dealing with your issue.  What do you need the money for?

To help towards rent & food. I've already contacted my local council and they said I can expect a call back from a food bank.

    They're all fishy - please, don't touch them with a barge-pole.
First off, are you just needing some money to tide you over until payday?  If so, there are a few options.
A food bank is one, as you have already alluded to.  And, much as we discourage it usually, do you have a trusted friend or family member who could lend you a bit for a few days?  Or even give you a few tins of food and a loaf of bread?  Can you speak to your landlord to see if the rent payment can be delayed by a week?
Do you have a credit card you could use?  Again, it's generally advised not to carry a balance on a credit card - but if it's a small amount for just a few days, that would be infinitely preferable, and far cheaper, than a payday loan.

JustAGuyWithQuestions, please take this as well meaning advice and not as a dig. Your posting history on here implies that you're having ongoing money issues: this needs tackling to ensure you can live a life of financial security without money worries. Remember, it's not how much you earn, it's how much you put aside and save for a rainy day.

Have you looked on some of the other boards within MSE such as Old Style Money Saving or Debt-free Wannabe? Without sorting out the root causes of your money insecurity you're doomed to get stuck in a cycle of spend and borrow. Best wishes.

  • They are all fishy. Speak to your landlord and contact a food bank. Next time you get paid sit down and do a budget. Rent and food are priorities. Using payday loans will make your situation much worse. They are sharks.

Hi, yes, another one saying please don't touch any of them with a barge pole. You'll end up in an even bigger mess.

The advice about loans from this very forum - 'borrow as little as possible, repay as quickly as possible'.

You can also contact your landlord - if it's not the council - and let them know of the problems you are having, try to reach a mutually satisfactory arrangement.

There's more information about foodbanks in this link -

    https://www.goodto.com/family/money-news/food-banks-near-me-115479

including information about private/independent food banks run by local churches or charities. You may find them advertised in your local paper and usually, you can visit one of these without a referral.

You can also be referred by your GP, or Citizens Advice, a social worker, or job centre as well as your council.

There's also info about available grants in the link.

As breaking_free says above, it might be a good idea to try to find a permanent solution if you're having continual financial problems.

You could always contact one of the free debt help agencies to see if they can offer you any advice.

    StepChange
    National Debtline
    Citizens Advice.

I always recommend StepChange as they're the agency who helped get me back on my feet. But they can help you, too, even if it's only with a bit of advice.

Good luck, I do hope that things start to look up for you very soon.
