Netflix is to launch a new plan on 3 November, which at £4.99 a month will become its cheapest offering. However, adverts will interrupt your viewing. Below we explain what's changing and analyse how the new plan compares.

I'll give it a miss, haven't missed Netflix after their last price rises tbh...

I find I can get plenty of content on other streaming sites for free, i.e. Pluto, Plex and tubi for those with a VPN. I've cancelled Netflix as of today, I put in the cancellation 11 days ago but it runs until my next payment date, today, 17/10/22.

Just signed up then discovered my Humax freesat box isnt a supported device and couldnt stream.
Had to upgrade to Standard Basic plan to watch Netflix on TV !!
There isnt a list of unsupported devices, the only way you can find out is to signup and then try!
This seems a very dodgy practice of getting new accounts

Well considering Humax hasn't made a Freesat box since 2020 and that tariff was introduced in 2022...

Anyway its documented here:

https://help.netflix.com/en/node/126831 - "A small percentage of devices that can play on ad-free Netflix plans can't be used with an ad-supported Netflix plan. This is because either the Netflix app or software on the device can't be updated to a version that supports ads."

So there you go.  As Humax are not in the market now, there will be almost certainly be no further updates to the software.  So you can withdraw your "dodgy practice" comment I think it is not the case and also not Netflix's problem you have a device that will never support the ad plan.

The dodgy practice is that you cant check whether your settop box or TV is compatible with the Ads package without signing up first. There is no list and support cannot tell you ! We are not talking about a niche device but a widely used Freesat PVR
