State Pension - Voluntary NI Contributions by Direct Debit - Some direct debits missing.

Hi there. After setting up a DD to take Class 3 NI Voluntary contributions starting from April 2022, I found that August (and now October) DDs did not take place.  I've noticed that on each of those occasions, I had sent an bank payment DD to the Inland Revenue for other reasons (the first was to pay the previous years (21/22) NI State Pension contributions and the second was to pay some extra tax).  It would seem that if you send (for whatever reason) an online payment then it disrupts (for that month) the DD they WOULD have taken as part of the DD setup for voluntary contributions.

Has anyone else found this and how does one pay the odd missing month of contributions?  Thanks!

Hello @cenobiteone - I'm sorry this hasn't had a response. It's my role as Ambassador (helper) to keep things running smoothly but I have been away.

I'm sure someone will come along with some help, but your question is on the edge of most people's knowledge.  If you like I could try moving this thread to the Tax board where people familiar with working with HMRC reside possible in higher numbers than on this board where we try to avoid paying them.

We would 100% support your paying of the NI - although many here try to do a job regarded as self employed so as to be able to pay Class 2 at well under half the price

I paid Class 3 NI voluntary contributions for several years by monthly DD.

The moment I calculated that I had paid sufficient NI contributions, I cancelled the DD. Three months prior to that I had to make a one-off online tax payment and did not find that it disrupted my NI payments.

Shortly after cancelling the NI DD with my bank, I received a letter pointing out that I had cancelled the DD and asking if I wanted to restart it. This was followed very quickly afterwards by a very nice letter to say that I had paid sufficient contributions to entitle me to the new full state pension and that I did not need to make any further NI payments!

I have to say that I have been very impressed with the service provided.
