THANK YOU!!!!  Savvy_Sue, 400ixl, Dakti and everyone who recommended a Powerline adaptor - it’s worked!!!  I now have internet upstairs.  Am so grateful as have no spare holidays left to use and thought I would have to book unpaid leave this week.

Annoyed at our IT department who should have offered me the advice I had from certain individuals on here.

    Thanks again.
Out of interest, what was the reason you couldn't just use a long ethernet cable?
I think she said it was down to workmen needing space and it would have been in their way - couldn't be attached to walls as they were working on them.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

They said " The downstairs floors have all been taken up and are being replaced, and all the furniture downstairs has been taken out." but I don't really see why you couldn't just run a lead along the ceiling temporarily - that's how I have been using a wired connection upstairs for several years.  If it was getting in anyone's way you could just keep moving it.

The only reason I say it is that I found powerline adaptors to be inconsistent and deliver a much reduced speed, hence changing to a long cable.
