Working from home

The allce is a bit ambiguous. My husband works for civil service the work is hybrid 3days home 2 days office this is the contract. The building is big but not enough to all work at the same time all different shift times. You have to book a seat for days you work. Can he claim £6 a week alkce. When he asked at work they said ask  HMRC ?
Thanks

I don’t know what allce or alkce is ??

from this i’d say He cannot claim WFH tax relief

    https://www.gov.uk/tax-relief-for-employees/working-at-home
  • It's the £6 a week allce
  • It's the £6 a week allce
Only his employer can pay him a £6/week allowance.

    Is he employed by HMRC?
  • No. Other dept. I thought this was a tax allce. I think Martin mentioned it.I don't read it as you claim off employer. You claim via you personal tax acct. Via gateway

    Oh you mean allowance.
there is tax relief available from HMRC for people who qualify.
its tax relief on £6, so for basic rate tax payers that’s £6 @ 20% which £1.2 per week.

unfortunately he does not qualify as per the link I posted.
It’s very clear who qualifies and who doesn’t on that link.

  • From the link provided by lisyloo, it is clear that the WFH tax free allowance is not appropriate.

    Who cannot claim tax relief

You cannot claim tax relief if you choose to work from home. This includes if:

    • your employment contract lets you work from home some or all of the time
    • you work from home because of COVID-19
    • your employer has an office, but you cannot go there sometimes because it’s full
  • Thanks for that. Typical. Especially as bills for energy are going up. At least he saves on train fair,😃
