LGPS linked to state pension age

I understand that benefits built up in the LGPS since April 2014 are payable in full at your state pension age.

If the Government decide to increase the state pension age again in the future (above the increases already written into legislation), to say 70, will benefits accrued up to the point of the change be protected from the increase? Or is it a case of we cant be sure until any new regulations are released..

Thank you.

I understand it to mean past and future contributions would not be payable (without reduction) until your SPA.

It will automatically change to SPA, there is no protection for accrued benefits.

This is from the civil service alpha guide but I assume any public sector pension with NPA of state pension age will be the same.

What if my State Pension age (SPA) changes?

As your alpha scheme NPA is linked to your SPA, if your SPA changes your NPA will change too.

  • The regulations have been worded very cleverly, the NPA will be linked to SPA, so even if SPA rises to 95 so will your NPA
