The hospital I work at has generators which are tested regularly, as are the staff processes for being off mains power, it is an NHS requirement as is a copper cable backup switchboard setup.

Do you reckon people who use oxygen concentrators etc will be told to get themselves to a hospital before the blackouts? I hope there's an alternative found, because I imagine hospitals would be busy enough already.

People on oxygen machines at home normally have a tank for if the power goes off, or at least an old neighbour did who was on oxygen. We had a 24 hour blackout and the power firm bought out a spare 24 hour tank as she was priority registered, hopefully that is standard for all those people who need the machines.

  • I had a dream last night that there was a blackout. It was pitch black!

I need to remember to keep my mobile phone, kindle and LED torches charged. I'm charging them all now.

Thanks for the reminder… I have a mini torch in my walking rucksack and now the clocks have changed, I need to check it’s charged…. And add my reflective armbands for walking on narrow country roads.

not quite blackout related unless out walking and all the streetlights go out of course :)

A good hand can opener if you normally use an electric one.
