Eon won't raise my DD
Hey there
I know Eon is probably a bit busy right now but I'm wondering if I'm the only one with this problem.
In August they wrote to me to say they wanted to raise my DD from £120 a month to £287+. This was based on their annual use estimate which took the total energy used in Jan/Feb and assumed that was normal year round use. I advised them of their error and that given our use year round is expected to be down significantly and that we were, at that point, paying a DD 30% higher than our summer use I wasn't willing to accept the increase. They were fine with that so the DD remained at £120 despite the fact that unlike what is standard we were in debt by just short of £400.
I did consider getting them to switch us to a actual use DD rather than an average one but decided to wait and see what was happening with the rebates.
So now they have reduced my £120 DD to £53 which is less than even our summer use each month. I've asked them to increase this and suggested that £80 would be a better amount to take at this point to prevent us getting further in debt. Their response today is "I can see your payments are 25th Oct 2022 £53.00 this does not include the £66 government rebate that will be added to your account." So they haven't responded about raising the DD to £80 and nothing has been amended online. The problem for me is that their system doesn't allow me to increase my DD at all unless I put it above the vastly overinflated amount of £287!
So, am I the only one having this problem?
I know that I can pay extra each month but won't have access to online banking for most of October so wanted to have an easy option.

If you want to pay more just make a random adhoc payment using the app. No need for online banking: all you need is the app and a bank card.1
-
Your £53 direct debit will still result in £119 being credited to your account.1

I can change my DD on-line, just log into your account. I did it earlier this year to adjust my DD to suit my much more accurate estimate of my consumption. Eon-Next have just reduced what they are taking as a DD by £67 but my account will be credited with the full DD amount.
As Sparkygrad says even thought what they take has been reduced your account will still be credited by the full amount. They advise not to faff around with the DD
These are the words on their websiteHow the Energy Bills Support Scheme will affect you.
Your Direct Debit will be reduced by £67 per month for 6 months from 1 October, however you should leave your Direct Debit at the recommended amount. Find out more about the Energy Bills Support Scheme

What app? It's online and I suspect will need me to confirm with a text at least to my phone which won't be possible until Nov (travelling)matelodave said:I can change my DD on-line, just log into your account. So should be £120 credited? My normal DD - which is fine then. The response I got didn't make it clear to me. And stuff I read said the DD would be reduced so I assumed that was like others who have the usual DD and then get a credit to their bank account with the £67.
As for amending my DD - I appear to be able to leave it as it is or change it to something above £287. That's annoying but I won't faff about as suggested.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. It seems that as far as their online system is concerned, the new DD is the full amount at the new price, rather than the sum that is actually being collected. They also have a maximum 10% that you can input as a reduction on your DD. So if you want them to collect more than the current sum, but less than 90% of the full sum, then the system will not accept it. I wanted to pay them my old (pre-October rise) DD plus the £67, so I thought I was increasing my payment, but from their perspective I am asking for a big reduction, so they won't allow it! It's frustrating that I want to give them more money and they won't take it!1
