Wine Tasting Kits or Events

Hi everyone,
"I wanna" buy my partner a wine tasting kit or take him to a wine tasting evening for his birthday next week, but I am not having much luck. Most of the Red Letter Day type events are in London which is too far for us up North! - in Bradford - near Leeds. The best I have come up with is wine tasting at York festival in September.
So if anyone has any suggestions including a good wine book that they could recommend, I would be very grateful :beer:

Contact your nearest wine bar,in my local town they organised all sorts of wine tasting evenings etc,and trips..............worth a try:D if not they may know a man who does0
