Can I claim tax back from paying for training myself?

Hi I've recently been made redundant after serving 20+ years with the same company. I'm retraining and paying for this out of my own pocket. Is there anyway I can get anything baxk for retraining from the HMRC?

If you are retraining to put yourself in the position of being able to trade as a sole trader, the answer is no. You cannot claim a deduction for expenses incurred in putting yourself in the position to carry on a trade. Keeping up to date once you establish your trade is normally allowable.0
