Drawn out remortgage timelines - should I be worried or not?

Our remortgage application has now been going on for over a month,. Is fairly typical, given that I've seen on another thread that Halifax are supposedly turning round applications in a couple of days? I'm concerned how much of the delay might be down to the broker rather than Halifax, and if consequently we may not be offered the rate we applied for (5 yrs @ 3.41%)?
18/8 - Recommendation given by L&C. As a contractor, contract dates and history were discussed, and a copy of the current contract provided. L&C explicitly confirmed they had checked and it would be acceptable to Halifax. Application submitted. Documents to hand sent to L&C.
19/8 - L&C state they have submitted the documentation provided so far to the lender.
26/8 - Outstanding documents submitted to L&C.
30/8 - L&C state remaining documents have been passed to Halifax and the application should be turned around within 5 working days.
9/9 - L&C ask me for a contract of employment (which, as a contractor, I don't have). I query this.
12/9 - I call L&C to chase, Halifax actually wanted my PSC contract with the client, which L&C hadn't submitted. They submitted it and advised we should get an update within 2 working days.
16/9 - Expiry of contract.
22/9 - L&C advise that Halifax have rejected the contract as it has now expired. I asked them to try and resolve the problem as they had been explicit that Halifax would accept it.
26/9 - New contract agreed. Submitted to L&C that day.
27/9 - Chased L&C, and they submitted the new contract to Halifax. No update given on what had gone wrong regarding acceptance of the previous contract, just that it was being looked into.
