Green Homes Grant / E.ON - I'm Eligible, but Questions...

I have been reading about the current Green Homes Grant scheme, available in conjunction with the government, local authorities and E.ON. I was more than surprised to read that a homeowner needn’t be in receipt of any qualifying benefits in order to be eligible. So, I have just come off the phone with the scheme provider, who, after having gone through an application, have said I am eligible for the grant up to £10k, and should now await calls from the nominated installers, for PV and hybrid ASHP?!

I am a homeowner in Staffordshire, income < £30k, not in receipt of any benefits, house has a EPC rating of D according to scheme provider. The EPC expired in 2019 apparently, but no changes have been made since then, and what measures were in place (loft / cavity insulation) were said to be included for the D rating. They had me down as having gas CH, but in fact I haven't used my boiler now for many years, it's circa 40 years old. I only use gas now for my hob.

So, can anyone confirm this is an actual thing, and that I would indeed be eligible for said grant / installation(s), and anything else I should be aware of?

Thanks!

  • Well this is what the government site says:

Sounds closed to me, but perhaps this is a different but similarly named scheme?
  • This is the scheme I applied for: https://www.eonenergy.com/green-homes-grant.html
  • Ah, they've re-used their old webpage for the newer schemes.

I think the two at the moment are called something like the Local Authority Delivered green funding mechanism and the Home Upgrades Grant.

I know very little about those unfortunately.
  • Here's the online eligibility form: https://www.eonenergy.com/grant-finder.html

I just checked that, it too returned that I was eligible. Somewhat surprised, given my not being in receipt of any benefits?!
  • It doesn't surprise me, not all of the schemes have historically required any benefits to qualify.  Things like the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (the heat pump grant) don't at the moment.

You might find that the grant money/vouchers/whatever don't cover the full cost of any works, that's quite a common thing.  Just like in the closed scheme I posted, where you could get 2/3 of the money up to a certain amount, or 100% of the money if you were receiving certain benefits.
  • Thanks - the lady I spoke to did say the grant was up to £10k, and could be used in full for either / both PV & hybrid ASHP. Wondering now about the usual costs for PV... She said it would be for PV only, not storage, and that I would become the full owner of said equipment following installation.
