Statute barred debt - do I sign the form?

Hi, I received a letter from a DCA (Link Financial Outsourcing) asking me to contact them to discuss my intentions regarding the outstanding balance on my account.  I spoke to them on the phone and it turns out it's a student loan which I took out in 1996.  The last contact I had with them was 2010 when I informed them of my change of address (looks like it was never received because the DCA said they had 'only just found me') and the last deferment ran out in 2009.

National Debtline have said that it is probably statute barred unless a CCJ was issued to me, which I have no knowledge of and there is nothing on my credit report, so hopefully not.

Do I send the Statute Barred letter and if so, do I physically sign it as I've read you should just type your name?  Or am I better to send the prove it letter in first instance? Thanks for any help.

With regard to the debt, it makes absolutely no difference whatsoever if you sign it or not, however from a data protection point of view, it should be signed.

The only reason that some people suggest not signing letters to DCA`s, is because way back in the old days certain companies would attempt to copy and paste your signature onto a blank credit agreement, but as a signature is not required to make it a legitimate copy, the point was a mute one anyway.

None of this applies to you, send the SB letter, and sign it, otherwise they may just return it.
