I had a return journey booked on Avanti WC.

When I got to the station on the day, the National Rail app said the return journey would terminate part way back due to staff shortages.
I chose to abandon travel as this would be a problem, and submitted an application for a refund, as you would with any cancellation.

I just heard back that the refund has been denied, as both the outward AND return journey happened (albeit slightly late for reasons unconnected to staff shortages).

So I COULD have gone after all.  I can only assume the staffing issues were resolved on the day and the train went the full distance.

How am I supposed to make a decision on whether its appropriate to travel or not if I cant rely on the train company's own data?

Do you have screenshots etc of the information, and did you check with taff at the station before you abandoned your trip?
Did you request a refund at the station?
