Hi!
I lost my Mum a couple of months ago and have been contacted by the Pension Service saying that they owe some money. Everything seems legitimate but just wanted to be sure that this is actually a thing? I might be being over cautious but you never know these days. Some of the questions are strange like 'who paid for the funeral?' Why would they need to know that? Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance

It is likely they want to know because your mum's executor generally tends to pay for the funeral out of her estate. Sound like they are asking about who is your mum's executor to settle any outstanding payments or repayments with the estate.1

You don’t have to pay it back,

Thanks JoeCrystal. It's nice to be owed money rather than owing it for a change.0

Perhaps the OP's late mother was paid state pension in arrears?

If that's what they want to know, why wouldn't they ask that? For myself, I'd double-check any such weird questions.JoeCrystal said:It is likely they want to know because your mum's executor generally tends to pay for the funeral out of her estate.
