British Gas debt collection letters

Hi, last yr I had an account with Neon Reef for electric only. For those unaware, they went bankrupt and were taken over by British Gas Evolve (now British Gas). Due to the general chaos and uncertainty I ignored communications til now where there seems to be some stability.
British Gas moved me on to a standard variable tariff (33% more than Neon Reef tariff) from Nov 2021 til July 2022. Again, due to uncertainty and instablity, I didn't pay any of the bills. After end of July, I've not received a new tariff contract from British Gas but I'm now getting threatening debt collection letters which are causing me anxiety. Every month the debt increases 30% on the previous month in spite of low usage.
When I rang British Gas earlier in the year to try and get an update, they said my account didn't exist.
I received an email from British Gas this week announcing the price cap and that there was nothing for me to do til I heard from them again.
I did a search for tariffs on a comparison provider but it showed me none I could move to.
Anyway, any advice on what to do with these debt collection letters?

The NR/BG transfer was pretty stable from the get go. The final number crunching concluded by May.
If you have bills that agree with the meter readings on pertinent dates pay those bills and decide how you want to pay in the future.

Yes, I guess I'll have to speak with them and try to reach some agreement.
