Will I get a missed payment?

Options
I am a bit concerned and annoyed really. I signed up to a free magazine subscription for 6 weeks, I decided I did not wish to continue past the free trial.
The website says to cancel the direct debit and inform them if you wish to stop and they will either stop it at the end of the payment period or immediately if you ask.

About 2 weeks ago I got an email to say, that the direct debit would be coming out on the 3rd October instead of the 13th September due to change of payment processor. I then went onto my account on Friday and cancelled my DD in readiness to call them. I find however that the DD was taken that day, not on the 3rd. I called them to ask to cancel, to be told the systems will not be working for 3 weeks and they cannot do anything at all until then! I then checked my bank and can see the DD was returned to me by the bank when I cancelled it...

Its such a mess and now I am concerned I will get a missed payment.

What constitutes a credit agreement for the credit references sake? What are the chances I will get a black mark here?  Apart from the DD I signed up to, I have not agreed a payment plan with them or anything like I would a phone contract etc. It seems to be a pay in advance kind of thing and get magazines. Company is totally useless!

Magazine subscription Services do not appear on your credit file as they are not a credit product are they.

Thank you. I really have no idea what makes its way onto your credit file. I was not sure if everything makes its way there if payment is missed. If its only credit products then that really good to know :D Puts my mind at ease.

Clue is in the name lol, credit file, hence contains details of credit accounts, more and more utility companies are now reporting to your file as well.

Anything that allows you goods or services in advance of payment could be classed as credit.

I would question why leave it to the last minute to cancel.  Even if you cancelled the day after you took the subscription out, you would still receive the goods paid for.  Or in this case the free trail period. You signed up for a set period and regardless of when you cancel you will be entitled to that set period.

DD are usually taken at the start of the day, so you if you cancelled it via an app it would have shown as taken.  Or if you cancelled by phone or in person you should have been advised it was taken.

But you got it back, which is the main thing…

I didn't plan to leave it to the last minute. They told me I had to cancel a few days before or they cancel it immediately when I call. I therefore followed the instructions to be told the systems are down for 3 weeks!

They were happy enough to send me an email telling me that direct debit date had changed (when it had not), but failed to inform anyone no changes to accounts could be made for 3 weeks. Had they I would have called a day earlier.

Hopefully won't affect you negatively, A tip is to cancel ASAP, I cancel the same day as they make money by a lot of people forgetting to cancel.
