Time limit for council tax increase

Does anyone know if there is a time limit on council rebanding your property after sale? We bought feb 2019. Previous owner did work. Didn't hear anything till nov 2022 with council raising band. We challenged and they said was due to work done before sale and it just took them a bit of time....almost 3 years!! From what I can tell, you are meant to appeal within 6 months of moving into a new property if you wish to challenge your band. Do the council have a time-limit? Thanks

Firstly it is the VOA who deal with CT banding not the council.
A CT band can be increased or reduced at any time. The only limitation is that a CT band cannot be increased on account of works carried out by the current owner after 1 Apr 1993.
You say that your band was raised in Nov 2022, did you mean Nov 2021? If a band is altered the CT payer has 6 months from the issue of the Notice of Alteration to formally appeal the Notice.
If you are in England this delay will have worked in your favour as this type of band increase is not backdated, so you will not have to pay any increase between Feb 2019 and Nov 2021If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales1
