Antique freezer containers!

At this time of year I am busy processing produce from my veg patch, for the freezer, for use over the winter. I noticed that a competition closing date on one of my recycled buttery spread containers was 28th February 1991. (Seven years older than my DS) Unfortunately, this highlights the problem with plastics going into Landfill but the container looks as though it has several years left of use in my deep freeze.

and your point is?
I have some Tupperware containers that had - then- a 25 year guarantee! (long gone) I store washings powder in one and the lid has a small crack where the pourer is. Guess it might be from the 70s!!!
I am still using a load of the square ice cream/margarine tubs (2lb ones) for storage outside freezer. They were built to last and a convenient shape unlike the new oval boxes.
We are able to put plastics such as margarine tubs & yoghurt pots in the recycling bin.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

Presumably the long life of plastic and therefore how long all the items sent to landfill will be sitting there before they rot/breakdown.Katiehound said:and your point is?6 -
I have a long green tuppaware container that I have used continually since the mid 1970s (it was my free gift for holding the party
) I've lost the lid somewhere, but its in use every Sunday morning as I peel my spuds and carrots and put them in water in the fridge.I have done this every sunday for donkeys years
save a lot of standing when you just want to cook a few spuds .I am usually sitting down with the veggies on my lap listening to The Archers omnibus
peeling away

After I typed that remembered that I still have a few original small square stacking boxes with blue lids from Lakeland- when they first started as L.Plastics!

A bit earlier than that, I think. I used to work for the ad agency that did their advertising in 1973/4 and well remember them as L Plastics.Katiehound said:After I typed that remembered that I still have a few original small square stacking boxes with blue lids from Lakeland- when they first started as L.Plastics!

I think I first used them when they gave away freezer labels in Home Freezer Digest. I wouldn't have had them before 1976 as I didn't own a house- or a freezer!YorksLass said:

early 80's?
I suddenly remembered earlier this evening that I had a surreal moment when I saw a Tupperware shop in Archangelsk, Russia about 5 or 6 years ago! It was on a really pretty touristy street:
Chumbarova-Luchinskogo street (улица Чумбарова-Лучинского)
I see Tupperware is still available but bought direct.Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!
