Antique freezer containers!

69 Posts

At this time of year I am busy processing produce from my veg patch, for the freezer, for use over the winter. I noticed that a competition closing date on one of my recycled buttery spread containers was 28th February 1991. (Seven years older than my DS) Unfortunately, this highlights the problem with plastics going into Landfill but the container looks as though it has several years left of use in my deep freeze.

I have some Tupperware containers that had - then- a 25 year guarantee! (long gone) I store washings powder in one and the lid has a small crack where the pourer is. Guess it might be from the 70s!!!
I am still using a load of the square ice cream/margarine tubs (2lb ones) for storage outside freezer. They were built to last and a convenient shape unlike the new oval boxes.
We are able to put plastics such as margarine tubs & yoghurt pots in the recycling bin.

I suddenly remembered earlier this evening that I had a surreal moment when I saw a Tupperware shop in Archangelsk, Russia about 5 or 6 years ago! It was on a really pretty touristy street:
Chumbarova-Luchinskogo street (улица Чумбарова-Лучинского)
I see Tupperware is still available but bought direct.
