Wrong council tax band

I was talking to some in out village the other day about cost of things going up, and i said how much i was paying for council tax, i have looked it to this and found out that in 2013 the building i live in was one house, the 2014 it was split in to two building, when It was one 5 bed house it was in band E and now its been split in two and might place is a two bed house, i am still pay for band E, the are charging myself a next door the same, would I win a case if I challenge this to get it drop to band B the same as someone else in village who had a place split in to two houses ??? any help or advice please, when I spoke to them they said because i lived there longer than six months can't claim.

We are currently appealing ours, and we have lived here over 20 years. However the process is slow with our council anyway.
Been about 6 months and just yesterday got an update that it is due to be reviewed in 3 months time due to backlog etc.

There is no need speak to them, just go through the official procedure, and wait....

If the original building has been split into two dwellings, but there is still only one CT band for the whole property then you can appeal to have 2 new bands. The 6 month time limit does not apply in such cases. There would be no guarantee that Band B would be the resultant band, it would depend how dwellings of a similar type and size have been valued.

Because banding appeals can take a long time, it may be better to inform the council of what has happened. They will inform the VOA who will arrange an inspection and assign a band for each dwelling.

It is not rubbish. Being outside the 6 months time limit means if the VOA say no, the CT payer cannot further appeal to the independent Valuation Tribunal. The OP's case appears to be a split of one dwelling into two. In such cases, the 6 month ruling does not apply

It won't be your council dealing with the appeal but the VOA (part of HMRC)
