Dried apricots, not ready to eat

I am looking for old fashioned dried apricots that need soaking. I could only find the ready to eat version in my local Sainsbury. Are they still available and if so, which supermarket sells them.

Holland and Barrett, I think they are called something like natural apricots? Not often in stock though.
  • A lot of wholefood shops sell them.

I agree - try your local whole food shop as they are likely to sell them loose and cheaper than Holland and Barrett
  • I don't think there is a whole food shop in my town unfortunately.

I did find a whole food shop but it was more expensive than Holland and Barrett. I purchased 100g loose from the whole food shop as an experiment to see if they taste as I remember. Not sure how long to soak for or how to cook.
  • The kind you buy in most shops will be the orange coloured, soft squidgey, ones - they'll have a preservative in them.
You can soak them more if you choose.

Have you heard of Huza apricots ?
They're totally unlike the orange coloured ones you'll see being offered everywhere, they're hard and dried and you'll not like the look of them but ...... try them !!!
    They're gorgeous.

Are Hunza apricots the same as the dark unsulphured apricot?

sadly can't find the recipe but a few years ago I made dried apricots (not the ready to eat) soaked in white wine which was a Christmas recipe. You bottled them.
When they were ready to eat added a dash of Amaretto- yum! have googled the recipe- not found

They sometimes get marketed as that, yes.

The hunza's, soaked in a liquer or brandy, are also good like that if you fancy them a bit special.
